VSA - A Closer Look

As promised, here's the scoop about Very Special Arts.

Aaron and I (Matt) had the privilege of hanging out at our old school, Piedmont High, for the event. It's basically like the Special Olympics, but with art.

About 500 kids showed up and had a blast playing games, doing arts and crafts, dancing, and more.

The day started with a parade. The kids were going crazy in the stands.

Chick-Fil-A provided food.

I manned the giant inflatable caterpillar. The kids went in one side, through a obstacle course, and out the other side. They loved it.

Occasionally I had to help the kids get started. It was gooey in there.

This little guy gave a huge speech at the beginning. I couldn't hear it from where I was, but it sounded like the crowd was into it.

Recognize this guy? It's prom model Mike Larsson. Lauren Turner was around somewhere, but we couldn't find her. There were a ton of people there.

Bustin' a move in the disco.

A word about Mrs. Price. She was my art teacher all through high school. I even took zero period art (before school began) so I could fit in two art classes my senior year.

She is a great teacher and an awesome person. She has been at the helm of Very Special Arts for 14 years and she does a wonderful job.

We're so thankful that we could be there. Seeing the joy on the children's faces was priceless.

If you were there and would like to get some of these pictures, we plan to make them available for download soon. Keep checking the blog for details to come.
